Thinking of you and cancelling our Spring semester

I am hoping this email finds you staying safe and finding some sense of normalcy in these trying times.

First, I want to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring semester of our Days of Taste program.

While our programming doesn’t typically launch until late April, given the current uncertainty of the school year as well as the challenges our Chef and Farm partners are facing, we made the proactive decision to cancel our Spring programming to allow our TasteWise Kids community to focus on their more pressing family and business obligations.

That said, we will be putting our time to good use and plan to provide online educational resources for teachers, students and their families in the coming weeks – we remain committed as ever to offering children fun ways to learn about food and inspire positive, healthy eating habits.

We firmly believe that food is a great vehicle for helping individuals and communities to connect. Given our current need to be home together more than usual, and maybe cooking at home more than ever, we have a unique opportunity to spark learning (and fun!) in our area of expertise. We have been in awe of (but not surprised by) the stories of food connecting people in this trying time – families cooking together, dinner parties proceeding as planned (on zoom!) and home chefs trying new techniques and experimenting with new ingredients. We are ready to add our knowledge and expertise to this conversation.

Creating online resources has been a goal of ours for some time – as a small nonprofit limited by funding our focus has always been on in-person learning. While we never would have chosen to take a break from the classroom, we are excited by the prospect of having the time to tackle this new way to provide quality resources to our students, families, and teachers.
